Trip to Kansas Ross Smith Posted 2/26/98 Was mostly business, so didn't have much poker time, but. . . . 1) Played Friday night at Prairie Band, a new Harrah's reservation casino north of Topeka. They had one 3-6 holdem game, and about 4 stud tables. The hold-em folks were a nice mix of people. "Crazy Asians" weren't too crazy, seemed to be about as strong as anyone. It was my first time playing outside the IRC channel. I palyed 4 hours, lost $35 including tokes and waitress tips. Had one hand w/ AKs flop AA9, lost big pot to A9o who raised my raise preflop, making me think he, too had AK after he kept raising, but checked on turn. As a new player, toughest thing to remember to do was to count bets so as to know pot odds. The room was physically decent, w/ a nice divider keeping out much of the noise from the rest of the otherwise smallish casino. 2) Went to Station in KC Monday night, late. Only game there was a 20-40 holdem game. Big room w/ 15 tables. I don't have the br for 20-40, and w/ my little experience, it's probably a good thing. But the game wasn't full so they let me sit at the table and watch for a couple hours (again, nice folks). My observations of the game led me to believe I actually had the skill to play in it, but who knows? "Crazy Asians": there were three Asians. One crazy, one too tight, one quite good. Crazy guy won 2k. Tight busted. Good one held @ even. Crazy claimed he had never in his life won so much in poker. Game broke when he said he had to drive to Springfield for 8am work. But I saw him 1 hour later wandering around amongst the blackjack and craps tables!!! Ross Smith Wake Forest University Debate 910-759-5268 Box 7324 Reynolda Station Winston-Salem, NC  27109
